“...He was a man without an official title without wealth, not a commander of an army nor a ruler of vast lands, he could not boast of any scientific achievement or artistic gifts, yet man governments and dignitaries from all over the world joined hands to pay homage to this little brown man who led his country to freedom. He was a man who made humility and simple truth more powerful than empires...” are the words aired in an American Radio channel on the death of Mahatma Gandhi.
Albert Einstein added, “Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth...”

These famous quotes about Gandhi, the father of our nation always makes us proud because it reminds us of the values he fought for.
We all know Mahatma Gandhi as a great freedom fighter who used ‘Ahimsa and Truthfulness’ as the only tool to bring down the entire mighty British empire of that time. He was an ordinary man like any of us who went to South Africa as an attorney. But everything changed in year 1893 when he was thrown out of a railway first class coach on to a platform at night just for being an Indian.
But how could he inspire his fellow Indians who had suffered the same or similar incidents and couldn't react at all for years.
Its only words and its this power of communication that gave the people a new direction both in South Africa as well as in India. He was not an eloquent orator, but he learned what he was not good at in due course. In one of the early protest meetings one of Gandhi’s friends point out to him how to convey an idea to the public, not just by reading out a prepared passage but to take it to their hearts.
Though Gandhi’s initial protests were not well planned or attended by masses as it happened in later years, he did know the power of words. He observed the people around him and was ready to learn from them. He tried to understand the good and bad in others, and their view points to frame up a principle of his own.

He was meticulous in conveying his idea of ahimsa to the public and the British officials.
He took the help of his British journalist friend to put a column about the first protest he conducted against a british law in one of the news papers. It caught the public attention all over the British empire.
In one of those inspirational speeches that he gave in South Africa he said
“..they may torture my body break my bones and even kill me but then they will have my dead body but not my obedience”. these powerful words when conveyed to the public inspired his fellow Indians to stand by his side and make the first move of disobedience against the mighty British forces. And the rest is history.

So my dear students I urge you to understand the power of communication, and convey your ideas and thoughts to the world without hesitation. The idea that is in your mind may be the next big thing the world is going to see.
Remember if Gandhiji didnt conduct that first meeting to protest against the atrocities then we will be living a different life,.. so dont wait for some one to tell you, to use the opportunity, just do it.
