Its simple; If we get an idea lets say some idea of a new product or a new business idea, what is the worst thing that can happen to it? It may sit there deep inside your brain or at the max you may tell it to your friends.
But there are some people who go ahead a few more steps with it.. They make it big, they give it life and become one of the most successful stories of the century. Model-T from ford was one such great idea. Ford brought cars to the masses through Model-T. Even though it was the most successful model for two decades from 1900-1927 it lost its step in '27 the reason he didn't build "over that great idea". GM and Chrysler's Plymouth were the cause.
Henry Ford still believed in delivering "The core product" he didn't think that Americans demanded more, they wanted luxury and space as part of their core product which was not their until then. So the lesson is simple. Product = Core product + Augmented product but the boundary between the Core and Augmented keep on changing so the most successful will keep on building over their ideas, adding/ identifying better augmentation and drive people towards it. The best products make the people think "Yeah this is the one I wanted" it makes people identify something they didn't know and drive them towards it. To keep this instinct alive you have to be your own competition competing with your own product else others will because they are waiting, for the kill....
