A Case study is what i meant by Lab. For managers the real practical problems are the cases each and every case gives a new perspective to a problem. How to tackle them how to solve them.
First thing to do is to familiarize with the situation(Know your case): may be 2 or 3 readings will be good enough to understand the situation. The situation should seep into you so that you can really feel you are there in the situation. Key points can be jotted down like; decision maker, What is the environment, what is the most ideal situation possible, extra data required
Generate Alternative Solutions. Identify all possible options as solution to the above identified problem.

Define the problem: this is the most hardest thing to do in the analysis,. you can start with either listing down all the major events explained in the case. What all are the stakes if you can identify more than one problem identify the weightage of each. The entire process is like going round in a loop before reaching the centre(problem).
Identify the Causes: the best way is to play the Devil's Advocate. Think out of the box (it is easy to tell; but it is only practice that helps). Reading various business case reviews can help in the initial stage development.
Generate Alternative Solutions. Identify all possible options as solution to the above identified problem.
Decision Does the decision solve the critical aspect of the problem,. is it specific don't be vague on the decision discuss the case with two or three people and make a deep understanding regarding the views and others opinions.
One simple case is of Mahindra And Mahindra in 1981 when Anand Mahindra joined as Executive Assistant in mahindra groups steel company, there was terrible price war. within six months after he joined managers claimed they tried their level best to find a solution but they couldn't. These are type of situations where a Manager should work. You should be able to analyse the cases and situations in these stress states.
On that day he introduced the concept 'contribution' to Indian managers.
But performance is something you have to bring out every now and then. That is what a leader should do. Organisational behaviour course suggests a leaders basic traits as Personal drive, Self confidence, Knowledge of Business, Creativity and originality, Flexibility. Taking these in another scale of a company we can see that a leading company has got some traits.
They aspire to become the best in their business (know your competence).
They have global potential.
They are innovative (competing with themselves).
They have sharp focus on financial returns (elimination of non value adding activity)
